Founded in 2005 by Jason and Janci Burns, the company recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, a milestone that reflects not just business success, but a deep-rooted commitment to family, faith, and community.
From Garage Beginnings to Community Pillar
The journey began humbly in the Burns’ garage, on the south end of Stayton. In their second year, they hired their first employee. Today, Focus Heating & Cooling employs over 20 team members, each one part of a growing family dedicated to delivering comfort and care across the Santiam Canyon and beyond.
Jason, originally from Portland, and Janci, a Stayton native, moved back to Stayton to raise their four children and be closer to family. Jason’s background in heating and cooling started in high school and college, and after serving as a pastor for several years, he returned to the trade with a mission: to provide for his family. Now, he proudly provides for more than 20 families through the business.
Why “Focus”?
The name “Focus” isn’t just branding—it’s a declaration of values. It reflects their guiding priorities: God first, Family second, and Business third. This philosophy shapes every decision and interaction, giving them a platform to share their faith and values through service.

Jason oversees the small business big picture of the finances along with developing relationships with local businesses and contractors, while Janci leads marketing, HR, and innovation. Together, they’ve cultivated a workplace culture rooted in grace—for both employees and customers. Recently, they added an operations manager from the Stayton area to support their growing team and evolving needs.
Their care extends far beyond HVAC. Focus Heating & Cooling is a proud sponsor of local nonprofits, including the Stayton Food Bank and the Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation. They have sponsored the Nonprofit of the Year Award through the local chamber, and a portion of every service call is donated quarterly to community non-profit organizations.
From hosting “the coolest booth at SummerFest” (complete with a mini split and free cold water to keep attendees cool) to supporting golf tournaments and local events, Focus Heating & Cooling is deeply woven into the fabric of the community.
