IRA Charitable Rollover

Reduce Your Taxes While Increasing Your Impact

If you are 70½ years of age or older and have a traditional individual retirement account (IRA), you can make an immediate impact at Santiam Hospital & Clinics through an IRA Charitable Rollover Gift. While there have been recent changes to the tax laws* regarding traditional IRAs, owners of these accounts still have the opportunity to make qualified charitable distributions of up to $100,000 in the calendar year.

IRA Charitable Rollover – Reduce Your Taxes While Increasing Your Impact

If you are 70½ years of age or older and have a traditional individual retirement account (IRA), you can make an immediate impact at Santiam Hospital & Clinics through an IRA Charitable Rollover Gift. While there have been recent changes to the tax laws* regarding traditional IRAs, owners of these accounts still have the opportunity to make qualified charitable distributions of up to $100,000 in the calendar year.

An IRA Charitable Rollover allows you to:

  • Make a gift directly from your IRA to Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation;
  • Satisfy part or all of your annual RMD from your IRA, and exclude part or all of that distribution from your Federal taxable gross income; and
  • Impact Santiam Hospital and Clinics’ healthcare by renewing or increasing your annual gift through your IRA Charitable Rollover.

For your gift to qualify:

  • You must be 70½ years of age or older at the time of your gift.
  • The transfer must be made from your IRA directly to Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation.
  • Your total annual IRA Charitable Rollover gift(s) cannot exceed $100,000 in the calendar year of the gift.
  • Your gift to Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation must be completed by December 31 in the year you decide to make the gift.
  • Your gift must be outright. Gifts from your IRA to donor-advised funds or life-income vehicles such as charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts do not qualify as IRA Charitable Rollover gifts

Making your gift is easy:

Before December 31 of this year:

  • Contact your IRA custodian.
  • Ask that your distribution be a charitable rollover to Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation.
  • To ensure that we can promptly and accurately credit your gift, ask them to include your name, address, and how you would like the gift allocated in the transfer.

Distributions can be mailed to:

Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation

1401 N. 10th Ave

Stayton, Oregon 97383

For distributions sent via wire transfer, please have your plan custodian contact us at 503-769-2175 for specific instructions.

Make Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation a beneficiary of your IRA

You may also consider making a charitable bequest of part or all of your retirement account to Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation. A retirement account bequest is one of the most tax-efficient ways to fund a charitable gift from your estate. By making Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation the beneficiary of your retirement account, you may reduce or eliminate federal estate and income taxes related to your retirement account at your passing.

With the reduced ability to defer income taxes on retirement accounts under the SECURE Act, making a charitable bequest of part or all of your retirement account is now an even more attractive option.

Making Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation a beneficiary of your retirement account will also qualify you to become a member of the SHCF Legacy Guild, established to honor all those who make Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation a part of their personal legacy by creating a planned gift. To learn more about becoming a member of the SHCF Legacy Guild and SHCF Legacy Guild member experiences, please contact us at 503-769-2175.

For more information on IRA Charitable Rollovers or making Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation a beneficiary of your retirement assets, contact us at 503-769-2175.

*The SECURE Act increased the age when required minimum distributions (RMD) apply from age 70½ to age 72. Benefactors can still begin making IRA charitable rollovers at age 70½.

Gifts may be made online at shc.foundation, by phone at 503-769-2175, or by mail: Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation, 1401 N 10th Ave, Stayton, OR 97383.

Designations

Personalized gift funds are created to make contributions in honor or in memory of someone special to you. You can create a fund in their memory, or contribute to one that’s already been set up. To create an endowed fund, the gift minimum is $100,000. This gift can be directed to different areas across Santiam Hospital & Clinics.

Donor will direct the gift by choosing an allocation: A memorial gift is a meaningful way to remember someone and have a lasting impact on the Hospital & Clinics. When making your memorial gift, please specify for whom and for what you are making your gift, and your gift will be directed to the appropriate gift fund.

Donor will make a general gift with no allocation: Should you wish to provide a memorial gift without a specific allocation, the Foundation will direct your gift in a manner that celebrates the memory of the loved one who has passed after consultation with the individual’s family.

Communication

Bi-monthly updates will be sent to the family and will include the names of donors who made a memorial gift. After 90 days, we will send the family a comprehensive letter. If funds have not been designated, we will consult with the family to allocate funds. Should the family have additional needs, please contact Gift Management at 503-769-2175.
