For more than seven decades, the Santiam Hospital Auxiliary has been a steadfast force of generosity, service, and community spirit. Even before Santiam Hospital opened its doors in 1953, the Santiam Hospital Auxiliary was already raising funds and preparing essential items for the hospital’s early patients. Founding members helped sew curtains, bedspreads, baby blankets, gowns, and diapers, ensuring the young hospital would begin its work with care and comfort at its core.
Today, the Santiam Hospital Auxiliary continues that legacy with 25 active members who carry forward the same dedication and joy. Their motto remains unchanged: “Always have a good time.” And they do—while making an extraordinary impact.
The Auxiliary has supported Santiam Hospital & Clinics over the years through generous donations, including major gifts to the Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation as well as equipment purchases that enhance patient care. Their contributions have helped fund a hospital van, a training simulation baby, and most recently, bladder scanners in 2026—each gift improving services for patients across the region.
Supporting local students has also been a long‑standing commitment. Scholarships for area high school students are written directly into their bylaws, and the Auxiliary works year‑round to ensure these awards continue for future generations. These scholarships help local students interested in the medical field to offset their tuition costs. They range from $500-$1,000 per student.
Their community events have become cherished Stayton traditions. The annual Fashion Show—held each fall—brings together local businesses, volunteers, and supporters for an evening of fun and philanthropy. Other beloved fundraisers include the Harvest Breakfast each September, the Tulip Sale in April, and their festive Poinsettia Sale each December. Proceeds from all events directly support scholarships and hospital needs.
The Auxiliary also operates the much‑loved Santiam Hospital Gift Shop, which received a complete remodel in June 2025 and now shares a refreshed space with the hospital coffee shop. The Gift Shop continues to be a favorite stop for staff, patients, and visitors—especially around the holidays when special discounts are offered.
Auxiliary members meet every third Thursday in odd month at the hospital. Lunch is at 12:30 PM, the business meeting starts at 1:00 PM. Membership is open to all. Anyone who wants to get involved, make friends, and support local healthcare is warmly welcomed. Membership is just $10 per year or $100 for a lifetime membership.
As the Auxiliary looks toward the future, they are actively seeking new members to help carry their mission forward.
