Stayton Veterinary Hospital

“Expert care. Compassionate service. Every time.”

For more than two decades, Stayton Veterinary Hospital has been guided by a simple yet powerful philosophy: provide exceptional medical care while treating animals, people—and each other—with respect. That mission has shaped not only their growth as a practice, but also their deep commitment to the Santiam Canyon community.

Dr. Mike Reynolds, who graduated from Oregon State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999, began his career in a mixed animal practice in Albany, where he developed his skills in small and large animal medicine and surgery. In 2005, he and his family returned to Stayton—his wife’s hometown—where he launched a mobile veterinary service to meet the needs of local families and farmers.

At the same time, Dr. Reynolds maintained a professional connection with colleague Dr. Jeff Brubaker, a fellow Oregon State graduate (class of 2004). Having discovered a shared approach to veterinary medicine and client care, the two partnered to purchase Stayton Veterinary Hospital on August 1, 2008. What was then a small one-to-two provider clinic became the foundation for something much larger.

Originally established in 1995 as a single-doctor practice, Stayton Veterinary Hospital has evolved into a full-service, mixed animal hospital serving both companion animals and livestock. Today, the practice offers comprehensive care—from wellness and preventative services to advanced surgical and emergency treatment—along with large animal ambulatory services that allow veterinarians to care for animals on-site.

Growth has been a defining theme of the hospital’s journey. As demand for services increased, the team remained committed to one driving principle: never say no when an animal or owner needs help. That commitment fueled significant expansion, including a remodel of the clinic in 2018. In time, they outgrew that space as well, leading to an ambitious project that more than doubled their footprint—from 5,800 to 11,000 square feet. The expanded facility now includes 14 exam rooms (up from five), an additional surgical suite, a significantly larger treatment area, and more space to support their growing team.

That team has grown just as dramatically. Today, Stayton Veterinary Hospital employs 11 veterinarians—only two of whom are part-time—and a total staff of over 65. Together, they deliver what they describe as “state-of-the-art medicine” while maintaining a culture rooted in respect, collaboration, and care.

Just as importantly, they are proud to be a place where people want to work. By offering above market wages, strong benefits, and a positive workplace culture, the hospital has created an environment where staff can thrive. This internal commitment reflects their broader philosophy: when people feel supported, they can provide the very best care to their patients.

Stayton Veterinary Hospital’s impact extends well beyond their clinic walls. Their team actively invests in the future of veterinary medicine, regularly connecting with students at Oregon State University to mentor and inspire the next generation of veterinarians. They also support local animal welfare efforts, helping ensure that shelters and rescue organizations in the region can continue serving the community.

As donors to the Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation, Stayton Veterinary Hospital demonstrates that caring for a community goes hand-in-hand with caring for its people. Their support helps strengthen access to quality healthcare throughout the region—reflecting the same values that guide their work every day.

Looking ahead, their aspirations are clear: continue advancing veterinary medicine, build meaningful client relationships, and ensure they can say “yes” when families and animals need care most.

Whether treating a beloved pet, supporting a local rancher, mentoring a future veterinarian, or investing in community health, Stayton Veterinary Hospital lives out its mission each day—ensuring that both people and pets are truly cared for.
