Tree Kings of Oregon: Cultivating Holiday Magic Across Generations

In the heart of Oregon’s fertile landscape, BTN of Oregon, widely known as Tree Kings, stands as a testament to family tradition, innovation, and the enduring spirit of agriculture. What began as a vision by a dedicated father, Mike Stone, has now blossomed into a thriving enterprise managed by his three sons, Ben, Tyler and Nathan, who continue to grow the legacy—one tree at a time.

Rooted in Family, Grown with Care

Tree Kings manages roughly 3,000 acres of Christmas trees across Oregon, the nation’s top Christmas tree-producing state. Their trees are sold through retail outlets, garden centers, big box stores, and directly on the farm. They reach customers as far as Dubai, China, Hawaii, Mexico, and throughout the United States.

Each tree begins its life in a greenhouse, where it grows for 2 to 3 years before being hand-transplanted into the fields. There, it matures until harvest—an intensive process that requires constant attention. As Lisa Stone, Office Manager, at Tree Kings, explains:

“Every tree is touched by hand multiple times a year over its growing period.”

A Family Legacy That Keeps Growing

Today, the business is not only run by the three brothers but is also supported by a growing number of family members from the next generation. Their children and extended family are now actively involved in various aspects of the operation—from working in the fields to helping with logistics, customer service, and seasonal events. This deep family involvement ensures that the values of hard work, quality, and care are passed down and preserved.

Blending Tradition with Technology

While the work remains deeply hands-on, Tree Kings is also embracing modern technology to enhance efficiency and sustainability. They use drones for precision spraying, reducing waste and improving tree health. During the busy harvest season, they operate two helicopters daily to lift trees from the fields- an impressive display of scale and coordination.

People First: A Growing Team

Tree Kings employs around 40 full-time staff year-round, expanding to 300 seasonal workers during harvest. Retaining skilled labor is a challenge, so the company invests heavily in training and development. It typically takes two full seasons for workers to become fully efficient in the field, highlighting the complexity and craftsmanship behind each tree.

During the holiday season, the farm opens to the public for a U-Cut or We-Cut Christmas tree experience, starting the weekend before Thanksgiving. This festive tradition is powered by local high school and college students, who help bring the holiday spirit to life for families across the region.

A Legacy That Grows

Tree Kings is more than a business—it’s a multi-generational family legacy rooted in Oregon soil and nurtured by dedication, innovation, and love for the land. With a blend of hands-on care, technological advancement, and a commitment to quality and community, Tree Kings continues to grow trees—and traditions—that bring joy to homes around the world.

Tree Kings is also deeply committed to giving back to the community. In June, they proudly served as the Lunch Sponsor for the Santiam Hospital & Clinics Foundation’s first-ever golf tournament, the Santiam Foundation Golf Classic. Their support reflects a broader mission to uplift and engage with the local community beyond the farm.
